The Montgomery County Retired Employees' Association, Inc., (MCREA) is an association of individuals who have retired from Montgomery County (Maryland) Government or receive the benefits of its retirement plan.

Founded in 1977, MCREA was established as a non-profit organization, IRC 501 (c)(4), to represent the issues and concerns of Montgomery County Government retirees.

Re:  Bill 44-16, Retirement-Fossil Fuel Investments-Restrictions

PUBLIC HEARING: TUESDAY, DECEMBER 6, 2016, 7:30pm

Montgomery County Council, 3rd Floor, 100 Maryland Avenue, Rockville, MD

On November 21, the MCREA Board voted to OPPOSE Montgomery County Council Bill 44-16, Retirement-Fossil Fuel Investments-Restrictions. The Bill was introduced to address the issue of climate change by restricting certain investments by the Board of Investment Trustees (pensions) and the Board of Trustees for the Consolidated Retiree Health Benefits Trust.

The MCREA Board will provide testimony opposing the bill. The Council will not discuss this bill until early 2017. MCREA will post updates on this bill as it progresses through the legislative process.

SOCIAL SECURITY/MEDICARE SEMINARS FOR RETIREES

The Social Security Administration (SSA) will be conducting onsite quarterly seminars. A SSA representative will provide employees and retirees with information about Social Security, Medicare and their online services and will be available to answer questions.

The seminars will be held in the EOB 15th Floor Large Conference Room
from 10 a.m. - 12 noon on the following dates:

Wednesday, February 22, 2017
Wednesday, May 24, 2017
Thursday, August 10, 2017

To attend a seminar, please register by emailing MCERP at retirement@montgomerycountymd.gov or calling 240-777-8230.

FREE Parking - If possible, park in the Council Office Building parking garage at the corner of Monroe and E. Jefferson Streets (access from Monroe Street). You will receive a letter at the seminar that provides you with free parking in that garage.

Other Parking Options (not free): on-street metered parking in the area; an open parking lot at Monroe Street and E. Middle Lane (access from Monroe Street); and indoor parking in a building where W. Montgomery Avenue ends at Monroe Street (access from Monroe Street).
